Accessibility

Built to be easy to read.

Many of our readers use reading glasses, bigger text or assistive technology. We design with them in mind first.

What we've built in

  • Large, adjustable text. Body text starts at 20 pixels. The "A A A" control at the top of every page makes it bigger, and your device remembers the setting.
  • A typeface designed for legibility. Body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, which the Braille Institute created for readers with low vision.
  • Strong contrast between text and background, in both light and dark modes.
  • Keyboard access to every link, button, and tool, with a visible focus outline and a "skip to main content" link.
  • Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, we turn animations off.
  • No pop-ups, countdown timers, or autoplaying sound.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Before a new page goes live, we check it for keyboard navigation and contrast.
