About us

Clear answers for one of life's biggest money decisions.

Heirloom Money is an independent education site for Americans in their fifties, sixties, and seventies who are working out what to do with their retirement savings.

Why we exist

Big decisions deserve better than a sales pitch.

Retirement money decisions tend to show up with a deadline and a salesperson attached. Leave a job and the rollover calls start. Get close to retirement and the ads start telling you to "protect" your savings. Hardly any of it is written with you in mind.

So we write the guide we'd hand our own parent before they made that call. It covers what the choice is and what it really costs, what can go wrong, and when it's smarter to walk away.

What we publish

Guides in everyday language on 401(k) and IRA rollovers, required minimum distributions, retirement planning and precious-metals IRAs. We also build free tools that run entirely in your browser: a gold IRA fit quiz, a fee calculator, an RMD calculator, and a rollover checklist.

Our principles

  • Primary sources first. We take the rules straight from the IRS, the Department of Labor and federal regulators, and we link to them.
  • Both sides, every time. Every option comes with its costs and risks, and who shouldn't use it.
  • No predictions and no fear. We don't forecast markets, and we don't try to scare you.
  • Open about money. We tell you how we're paid and label paid links.

The details are in our editorial policy and how we review companies.

How we're funded

The site is free to read. We earn commissions when readers contact some of the companies we recommend and become customers. Our recommendations follow published criteria. Payment never changes what our guides say. See our advertiser disclosure.

What we are not

We aren't financial advisors, broker-dealers, tax preparers or precious-metals dealers, and nothing here is personal advice. If you want advice on your whole situation, consider a fee-only fiduciary financial planner. You pay them directly, so they don't earn commissions. See our financial disclaimer.
